Getting softer

Don’t tell me to run harder
Than I ever have before,
Just remind me that He’s sweeter
Than I’ve ever known before.
Don’t tell me life’s just hard
As if this is all there is,
Urge me to go deeper
Into Love prepared for this.
Life IS hard and sore and weary.
When we’re struggling in the storm
Knowing, prepared and near,
He Equips for cross in every form.
Not through toiling effort heavy
Nor through quick’ning gritting pace,
But through leaning soft and weary
Into arms of love and grace.
Growing older is getting softer
More childlike and known.
As we stumble sick and teary
But find Him faithful every morn.
