I Heard a Voice
I heard a voice. It spoke a word. Dark, then light, World leapt into being. I heard a voice Break the cedar, Bring the deer to birth, All His creation known...
I heard a voice.
It spoke a word.
Dark, then light,
World leapt into being.
I heard a voice
Break the cedar,
Bring the deer to birth,
All His creation known.
I heard a voice.
Flesh from dust,
Man, the glory,
Man, the crown.
I heard a voice,
It broke with grief,
“Man, where are you?
What have you done?”
I heard a voice,
Stone tablets carved,
Stone tablets broken.
The Law still stands.
I heard a voice,
Lament the wanderer,
Grieve the gone,
Entreat His people home.
I heard a voice,
“Beloved is my Son,”
Holy dove came down,
Three united One.
I heard a voice,
Turn down the world
Offered in Satan’s hand.
He walked on to Calvary.
I heard a voice,
He spoke so tender,
“Little girl, arise.”
Oh, “Let them come.”
I heard a voice,
Just and full of anger,
“This is my Father’s house!
Be gone you den of thieves.”
I heard a voice
Decry the righteous,
Forgive the sinner,
Welcome His people home.
I heard a voice
Rend the temple drape,
His body rent as well.
“It is finished!” was His cry.
I heard a voice,
“Mary.” Soft, the gentle tone,
Risen was the One,
Restored her shattered hope.
I heard a voice
Forgive His broken friend,
“Do you love me?”
“Feed my sheep.”
I heard a voice,
He told me to go,
And use my voice,
To bring the wanderer home.
I heard a voice,
It is the church.
And it is my own.
“You, alone, are worthy.”
