Today is tomorrow

“Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.”

Today is tomorrow.

You likely sang that song yesterday, or sometime over the weekend. I did.

Today is the next day after He rose. When everything is done. When they likely looked at each other, elated, confused, and asked, “What’s next?”

He’d answer that for them in the coming days. He had Peter to restore and the Great Commission to give. He had Thomas to reassure and some breakfast to make by the sea.

But the work was done. Those first disciples, us, today - we can look back and know that the tomorrow we sing about is now.

And we can face it. Because He lives.

“But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace…” (Ephesians 2:13-14).

It’s easy to feel anonymous in the body of Christ. I’m just one mom with a couple of kids and a few problems. I’m starting my Monday with all its burdens - school and family and work and exhaustion - and no one knows or cares.

But that’s not how the Bible puts it.

This great tomorrow, this great plan of God, we are part of it. Sought out, chosen, called, and redeemed. We’re not just a face in the crowd. He might as well have said your name in that quiet garden moment instead of Mary’s. It was for you.

We sense we are so unworthy of His attention. But He has made us worthy.

He’s brought you near to Himself - your wounds and your past and your fears and your flaws and your sin. Your personality and your character and your situation. He’s brought you near to Himself, forgiven you, and has become your living peace.

He’s alive today on this first tomorrow after Easter. We have a new life, a new identity, and a new future because He lives. The old has passed away. The new has come. This day, and every day.

Today, He is rejoicing. Yes, even in the laundry and lunches. Even during the bickering kids and the sticky floors and the empty fridge. He rejoices because you have a future. And He can’t wait to bring you into it.

May the hope of that day - when everything set right will shine like the sun - light your day on this first tomorrow. And the next and the next.

Because He lives.
