What's in your hand?

What is in your hand?
What is in your heart?
What is the passion that moves your soul?
What is the corner of the kingdom that He made you to fill?
You’ll find calling whispered there.

Throw it down.
Down on the ground like Moses’ staff.
Watch it writhe
Watch it hiss.
It has teeth, but give it to Me.
And know what I don’t mean it to be.
Selfishness. An idol. A consuming goal.
A god that will strike you.
Throw it down.

Now pick it up.
Not the head, grab the tail.
Trust Me with the venom,
Trust Me with the teeth.
Pick it up and watch it go still
Your staff once again
Feel the cool wood where once were scales.
Hold it and hear —
I’ve called you, don’t fear.

One day it will command kings,
Bring judgment,
Guide wayward,
Part seas,
And bloom.

But know that this staff in your hand,
It is not you.
It is not Me.
It is a tool, tamed,
Used in My will.

What is in your hand?
